  • Nursing assessments
  • Medication monitoring and nursing guidance
  • Wound care support and dressing changes

  • Family education and care coordination
  • Support for clients with more complex care needs

RN vs PSW: What Is the Difference?

A Personal Support Worker helps with daily living needs such as bathing, dressing, mobility, meals, companionship, and comfort.

A Registered Nurse supports clinical care needs such as nursing assessments, medication monitoring, wound care, vital signs, chronic condition monitoring, and nursing guidance.

Some clients only need PSW support. Others may need RN care. In many cases, RN and PSW services can work together to create a more complete care plan.

When Registered Nurse Care May Be Needed

A Registered Nurse may be required when a client’s care involves clinical needs that go beyond daily personal support. This may include monitoring health conditions, supporting recovery after a hospital stay, assisting with wound care, or helping families understand changing care needs.

When RN and PSW Services Work Together

In some situations, clients may benefit from both Registered Nurse and Personal Support Worker services.

The Registered Nurse can support clinical care, assessments, medication monitoring, wound care, and nursing guidance. The Personal Support Worker can assist with daily personal care, companionship, mobility, meals, and comfort.

Together, RN and PSW services can provide a more complete care plan for clients who need both daily assistance and clinical support.
